Rewind to July 2023: a Comeau family party. Art picked up my new “Rain Song” acoustic and started playing Broken Halos — I recorded as he paraphrased through a chorus with a cigarette dangling from his mouth. Recycling through the chords without singing as he tested the guitars resonance & tone. Obviously, at that time I never could have known how incredibly kismet it would be to have that footage.
Six weeks later, Art passed away suddenly. I revisited that video and built a simple instrumental around his voice. On October 2nd, at his Celebration of Life, I gathered my family to sing the chorus over the chords he’d played — without telling them what was coming.
Throughout 2024, I brought family members into the studio one by one to record their parts, with my co-producer Mertz helping elevate the track into the triumphant ballad it is today.
In the spring of 2025, the song was summed and mastered using analogue equipment by John Mailloux at Bongo Beach Productions — transforming Art’s voice into an eternal echo that refuses to fade.
